The Software Library: Atari Computer

The Atari 8-bit family is a series of 8-bit home computers introduced by Atari, Inc. in 1979 and manufactured until 1992. All are based on the MOS Technology 6502 CPU running at 1.79 MHz, roughly twice that of similar designs, and were the first home computers designed with custom co-processor chips. This architecture allowed the Atari designs to offer graphics and sound capabilities that were more advanced than contemporary machines.

Atari Program Exchange (APX) was a division of Atari, Inc. that sold software via mail-order for the Atari 8-bit family of home computers. Quarterly APX catalogs were sent to all registered Atari 8-bit owners. APX encouraged any programmer, not just professionals, to submit software for commercial distribution. If selected, a program was added to the catalog, with credit given to the programmer. The top submissions in each category were awarded, and several popular APX titles, such as Caverns...

From Atariarchives.org: What is the Old Hackers Atari User Group? This article is excepted from a Current Notes magazine article by Alex Pignato. (May 1993, volume 13, number 4) Due to declining membership, The Ol' Hackers Atari Users Group closed its doors after its final meeting in December 2000. In the Beginning. It started innocently enough. I read a message on a Bulletin Board System (BBS) from another "poor soul" (Kevin Blaes) who was pleading for help so that he could upload...
